For Policy Makers

KFAS offers workshops and training missions for policymakers looking to expand their skills and share experiences in Kuwait and abroad. We aim to advance evidence-based public policy-making and evaluation and the promotion of quality scientific research, as well as enhance the ecosystem for collaborative research and innovation here in Kuwait.

Examining and Informing Public Policy to Meet the Challenge of Global Warming in Kuwait

Professor Giles Atkinson from the Department of Geography and Environment at LSE, and Dr Ayele Gelan from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research.

While the importance of metrics in assessing the sustainability of the development path a national economy is well established, the project will deepen the evidence base in Kuwait via two interrelated activities: a) construct a wealth (and natural capital) account for Kuwait including a thorough country level inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, and b) develop an economy-wide model which can be used to simulate interactions between economy-environment-society interactions. In pursuing these aims, the proposed project will build on two ongoing KFAS funded projects currently being implemented with the Economic Public Policy programme of KISR. The project will run from May 2018 to April 2020, with the following outputs: one three-day training in Kuwait for staff from stakeholder institutions, including Kuwait’s Environmental Protection Authority, Ministry of Supreme Planning Council and Central Statistical Bureau; a stakeholder workshop in Kuwait; a policy paper synthesizing project activities in non-technical writing which will be disseminated to stakeholders and published the Programme; an international conference paper; and a referred journal publication.
